MINUTES
The Alternative Funding Committee of the Hollidaysburg Area School Board met Tuesday, May 24, 2022, in the Senior High Library, 1510 N. Montgomery Street, Hollidaysburg. Mr. Nichols called the meeting to order at 5:06p.m. and opened the meeting with the pledge to the flag.
Roll call was taken by Mrs. Fiscus with four members present. Attending were Mr. Nichols, Mr. Snyder, Ms. Costanza and Ms. Bilek. Also attending were Dr. Gildea, Superintendent, Mrs. Fiscus, Business Manager/Board Secretary, Ms. Thomas, Director of Accounting Operations, Mrs. Summerville, Data Management Administrator, Mr. Nihart, Director of Physical Plant, and Mr. Arthur, Director of Technology.
The committee discussed alternative funding ideas to eliminate real estate taxes for homeowners 65+ of their primary residence, by way of an increase in the Per Capita Tax, Consumption Tax, Vehicle Registration Tax, Development of curriculum by district teachers for use and for sale, increase in rental fees for district property, and a school district volunteer tax credit.
Committee members and administration will further explore real estate tax revenue, rental information, the actual cost of home ownership, information on increasing the Per Capita Tax and seeking out an attorney who specializes in tax law.
There being no further business to be brought before the board, Mr. Nichols declared the meeting adjourned at 6:20p.m.
