MINUTES

The Curriculum Committee of the Hollidaysburg Area School Board, met Wednesday, May 17, 2023 in the Senior High Library, 1510 N. Montgomery Street, Hollidaysburg at 5:04p.m.

Attending were Ms. Costanza, Mr. Snyder, Ms. Bilek, Mr. Stephens, Dr. Gildea, Dr. Palazzi,  Ms. Hartman, Ms. Koehle and Mrs. Summerville.  

Colleen LaBarbera, Pa Educational Consultant was present in person along with Lloyd Jones with I-Ready Mathematics who participated virtually and presented content information of the I-ready Mathematics  software and consumables for K-6 mathematics.

Dr.  Palazzi presented information and described the process for choosing the software.  The process took over a year to complete and included math software research, teacher reviews and piloted grades at each elementary school of the I-Ready software.

Ms. Costanza and Ms. Bilek shared their concerns about the amount of reading involved with the curriculum as well as questions posed in the curriculum that isn’t relevant.  Both Ms. Costanza and Ms. Bilek suggested more discussion was needed before approval.

Dr. Palazzi stated that if the material isn’t ordered by July 1, the students won’t have a math curriculum for the start of school.  

The meeting adjourned at 6:30p.m.
