HOLLIDAYSBURG AREA SCHOOL DISTRICT MINUTES

The Hollidaysburg Area School Board met for a Committee of the Whole Meeting – Budget Discussion on Wednesday, May 4, 2022 in the Senior High Library, 1510 N. Montgomery Street, Hollidaysburg.  Ms. Hartman called the meeting to order at 7:49p.m. and opened the meeting with the pledge to the flag.

Roll call was taken by Mrs. Fiscus with eight members present.  Attending were Ms. Hartman, President, Mr. Nichols, Vice-President, Mr. Frye, Mr. Snyder, Dr. Sommer, Ms. Bilek and Mr. Costanza.  Mr. Brenneman participated virtually.  Mr. Stephens was absent.

Participating virtually was Dr. Gildea, Superintendent.  Also present were Dr. Palazzi, Interim Director of Curriculum, Mrs. Koehle, Director of Special Education, Mrs. Fiscus, Business Manager/Board Secretary, Mrs. Thomas, Director of Accounting Operations, Mr. Caldwell, Director of Human Resource/Transportation, Mrs. Summerville, Data Management Administrator, Mr. Nihart, Director of Physical Plant, Mr. Arthur, Director of Technology, Attorney Dambeck, Solicitor, Mr. Harrington, Mr. Hartline, Mr. Keagy, Mr. Madden, Mr. Krott and an Altoona Mirror representative.

Business Office Report / Mrs. Fiscus

The 2022-2023 Budget Presentation #4 was given by Mrs. Fiscus and Mrs. Thomas.  Mrs. Fiscus gave a recap of the consolidated budget.  Total expenditures of the proposed budget are $55,485,103   Total revenues are $51,526,982   This represents a 5.6% increase in total expenditures and a 1.8% increase in revenue over the 2021-2022 school year.  The estimated fund balance for 7/1/2022 is $8,686,36.  This includes an estimated projection of a $600,000 deficit over the current 2021-2022 school year.

Mrs. Thomas and Mrs. Fiscus provided a breakdown of expenditures and revenues by way of a power point presentation.  The largest portion of expenditures are salaries and benefits coming in at close to 71% of total expenditures.  Categories were broken down on the expenditure side as well as the revenue side of the budget along with several comparisons in revenue, state and local. 

The board and administration discussed positions and class sizes looking for ways to cut costs district-wide.

There being no further business to be brought before the board, Ms. Hartman declared the meeting adjourned at 8:58p.m.
